Combined Heat and Power Plant with Reversible Diesel- / Gas Operation
In this example our customer needs his technical service staff to be capable of operating and adjusting the control on their own. Thus the control needed to meet the following demands:
- Parametrizable control
- Remote access (monitor, control and adjust)
- Management of
- 60 digital inputs
- 40 digital outputs
- 40 analog inputs
- 5 analog outputs (incl. PID-control)
- Visualization of measured data and parameters
We decided to use a ComAp Control to meet these demands.

Control Technology (Hardware):
The control of the combined heat and power plant consists of the following hardware components:
- one ComAp InteliSys Gas control device, to control and monitor the complete plant
- one ComAp InteliVision 12Touch remote panel, to display operational relevant measured data and parameters
- three ComAp Inteli IO8/8 digital expansion modules, to process additional information
- two ComAp Inteli AIN8 analog input modules, to process operational relevant analog data
- one ComAp Inteli AIN8TC analog input module, to process exhaust emission temperatures (thermo elements)
- one ComAp IG-AVRi interface converter, to drive the genset power control
To reduce cabling, the engine-related input / output signals are read in directly at the engine with distributed I/O modules and transmitted to the control via a CANBUS connection.

For remote control we use the ethernet port of the ComAp InteliSys gas control device and the associated software InteliMonitor and WebSupervisor.
Function:
Control of auxiliary drives
Auxiliary drives of the combined heat and power plant are switched on / off automatically depending on operational condition and associated parameters.
Additionally the operator can change operation mode and parameters of auxiliary drives at the ComAp InteliVision 12Touch remote panel. Operation mode and operational status are displayed in the visualization.

PID Controlled Ventilation
For optimal control of the charge air temperature the charge air fan is controlled by frequency converter.
The speed setpoint is set by the integrated, parametrizable PID controller of the ComAp control. The PID controller compares the rated value with the actual value and adjusts the controlling signal dependent on the preset parameters (PID).
The actual status of the integrated PLC can be displays by InteliMonitor and the related feature PLC Monitor visually.

Active Power Demand
The active power of the combined heat and power plant can be controlled by the following parameters:
- internal active power demand, direct entry at operator panel
- external active power demand, analog input (4-20 mA / 0-100 %)
- active power demand from the electricity company, by digital inputs the active power can be set to 0 %, 30 %, 60% oder 100%
- internal active power demand reduction, by internal parameters the active power can be reduced to an individually set point.
The different set points and related control values are displayed at the visualization.

Even complex applications can be realized by parametrizable controllers. During tendering stage the different solutions should be compared technically and economically.
If you have any questions regarding this application or other concepts, please do not hesitate to contact our technical sales staff at any time.
